American Idol Judges
American Idol Judges! Well tonight’s show sure was fun. People are already buzzing about ‘Pants On The Ground’. Is ‘Pants On The Ground’ a real song? Mary J Blige did a great job as guest judge. Ok, maybe she couldn’t stop laughing a couple of times… but I like her style!
Are you ready for American Idol Season 9? It’s going to be a great one with host Ryan Seacrest and judges Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi!
Starting January 12, 2010 for 2 nights, back-to-back with auditions from Boston and Atlanta. I’m sure we’re in for a treat to the best and worst contestants that Simon can find.
Be sure to check out the new time change – one hour later than earlier seasons starting on February 3. No one is sure why FOX is making this move and putting ‘Human Target’ in AI’s old time slot, but be sure to check your local listings.
In addition to new American Idol Judge, Ellen DeGeneres (sorry Paula Abdul fans) there will be several guest judges throughout the season including Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris, Joe Jonas, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and Shania – big names for sure! We can’t wait for Simon’s answer to Ellen’s challenge to a dance-off!

This season is no exception with the good, bad and the awful auditioning for their try at stardom. In each of the audition cities, Ryan Seacrest hosts along with Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi. FYI – Ellen won’t be on set until ‘Hollywood Week’. They will be joined by the guest judges, Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris, Joe Jonas, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and Shania Twain. All the contestant hopefuls are seeking the “Golden Ticket” to Hollywood.
Those lucky contestants talented enough to earn their Golden Ticket, move on to the ‘Hollywood Round’ where contestants seek a semifinalist position. This is the point we’ve all been waiting for – once in Hollywood, Ellen DeGeneres joins the judging team! Can’t wait to see the ‘dance off’ that she has challenged Simon to!
When the contestant hopefuls finally arrive in Hollywood, they perform on different days. There is a high level of drama, crying and ranting as the judges make massive cuts.
Hollywood Week, The way it was:
Typically on the first day, each contestant sings solo from a list of selected songs. For the next round, the contestants form into small teams and perform a song together where even more drama, crying and ranting can be heard. In the final round each individual sings a cappella, without accompaniment.
Hollywood Week, Changes that began in 2008:
Beginning in 2008, the contestants no longer performed in groups, instead they performed solo and if they impressed the judges, moved to into the final Hollywood round. If they didn’t impress the judges, the contestants received one final chance on the third day. And the contestants were allowed to perform with an instrument of their choosing. Unfortunately, most contestants were criticized by the judges when they were brave enough to attempt singing and playing.
Hollywood Week 2010:
Who knows? Stay tuned for this season’s new changes on American Idol Judges.
